Nourishing Millions follows on Millions Fed, a project that identified 20 proven successes in agricultural development that substantially reduced hunger and poverty.
Led by IFPRI with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the initiative documented successes ranging from interventions that enhanced productivity to those that combated diseases and pests, conserved natural resources, expanded market opportunities, improved human nutrition, and improved the policy environment. Specific interventions included the international collaboration to contain wheat rusts, the global effort to eradicate rinderpest, land-tenure reform in China and Vietnam, and homestead food production in Bangladesh. In addition, the project explored key drivers and factors underlying success and provided lessons for improved policies and investments.
IFPRI will draw on its experience leading the Millions Fed project to bring together stories of successful programs, interventions, and nutrition champions for Nourishing Millions. Recognizing the absence of lessons from real world contexts in real time, these projects will contribute to a crucial evidence base for policymakers and practitioners to improve nutrition at scale.
